The SLIP team recognises that the stability and availability of services is essential to SLIP users. As such, we have made this a focus of our SLIP maintenance plan.
With new users accessing the platform daily and an ever-growing number of SLIP services, we are pleased to announce an enhancement that will improve the platform stability going forward.
To better manage traffic and server loads we have implemented an additional SLIP server specifically for public services. This extra server delivers several key benefits:
- Number of services per site is reduced and will allow for continued growth.
- Traffic load is more evenly spread, which should reduce outages and improve performance.
- Restricted services are isolated and will no longer be impacted by unexpected surges in public traffic.

How do we prepare?
Our favourite part of this change is that there’s nothing you need to do to prepare as it’s already done! The existing service URLs can continue to be used as normal thanks to a redirect so there is no impact to you as the end user.
What next?
In the coming days we will be refreshing all the SLIP public dataset URLs on Data WA to display the new public site end points. While the old dataset URLs can continue to be used we do recommend migrating to the new end points wherever possible. For new connections, please use the new URLs.
