Urban Eye is an advanced suite of data products, reporting on land cover (including urban tree canopy) for the Perth and Peel regions in Western Australia.
Originally commissioned by the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage (DPLH) on behalf of the Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC), Urban Eye is an advanced suite of data products now managed and administered by Landgate. It includes data generated for Landgate by CSIRO using CSIRO's Urban Monitor® software.
Urban Eye tracks and reports on land cover and structural changes within the Perth and Peel regions. The dataset and its derived products, include information on elevation, land surface, vegetation, buildings, urban heat and more. Urban Eye data is made available by Landgate for use by all State and local government agencies in Western Australia.
Available data types include:
- Four band multispectral imagery
- Digital surface model
- Ground elevation model
- Normalised surface model (NSM). Relative height of a location above ground
- Vegetation mask: Identifies all green/living vegetation
- Tree mask: Detects green canopy above half a metre in height
- Grass: Identifies green vegetation at ground level
- Vegetation height: Height of Vegetation in millimetres
- Vegetation index: A proxy Vegetation vigour. The values are the normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI)
- Building footprints: Identifies the extent of roofed area
Strategic management, procurement, and distribution of Urban Eye products is now coordinated by Landgate as part of the Capture WA program.
